Luke 21:1-4 says “As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. I tell you the truth,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.
What lesson can we learn from this woman? What matter is the willingness, which is the motive of true generosity no matter how small the amount that can be afforded.
Let me set the scene for you, it was offering time in the church and this woman worshiped Jesus just as the rest of the people in the temple. But when it came to giving, she only had two mites which represents two coins. Those two coins was all she had, and she gave out of what she had. Turned out she gave more than others had. It had nothing to do with the amount she gave, the reason she gave more than others was because she gave all she had.
I have had people to ask me to pray that God will bless them so that they can bless someone else, and my respond to them is I will pray that you bless people out of what you already have.
When we bless others out of what we already have God will bless you back. Being a blessing to others it is not about receiving more so you can give more.
The question we should be asking God is,” Lord am I a giving person? The Lord seeks a willing heart, how willing are you?
