Joy Abundantly Joy

John 10:10 says “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

A thief is a person who will suck the joy out of your life, they have no regards towards life. But we have an adversary who is much more cunning, who haunts and lurks all day long waiting for you and me to slip. His only purpose is to kill, steal and destroy us at all costs.

He tries his best to come to us through our family members, our finances, health and even our own selves. John tells us that Christ came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

When you and I think of abundant life we think of having more than we already have, but if you go to 1 Corinthians 2:9 it gives us a clear understanding of what an abundant life really is. However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.”

What a promise that we can hold on to knowing that God Himself is going to give us an abundantly life. Doesn’t that just make you want to jump up and down? Hallelujah, Praise God.

This posting today is so timely for me. Today was my Mammogram and Ultrasound appointment. I had scheduled this appointment months in advance. So, this morning when I arrived for my appointed time, I signed in and waited to be called for registration.

When my name was called, I followed the representative to the registration desk, she said I see that you are scheduled for the Mammogram and not the Ultrasound with it. I said, no I scheduled both. What happened was the person who scheduled my appointment never added ultrasound as a part of my exam. The registration nurse tried to see if she could still get me in, but it would make me late for work. So, I told her never mind, I will call later and reschedule the exam.

While leaving the building I was saying to myself, “this was a waste of my morning.” I got up thirty minutes earlier and wasted my gas. And for what? By the time I got in the car the Lord said, “everything is for a reason.” Okay, Lord You are right. I then decided to go ahead and reschedule my appointment.

Moving forward here after I finished scheduling the appointment I asked to speak to a supervisor. I ensured the young lady that it was not about anything you had done wrong it was what happened when I called months ago to schedule this appointment,

While I was waiting on hold for the sup the call disconnected. Immediately the Lord said again, “everything is for a reason.” This time I listened. I let it go and I said, “well Lord, today was not the day for the Mammogram and Ultrasound but at least the second representative was able to get me another appointment for next week.

Why this is so timely for me? Because had I not listened to what the Lord said I would have allowed the enemy to steal my joy today. I just love how the Lord speaks to me. Despite myself.

And to add to this, who knows what was happening behind the scenes? Only God knows! Whatever it was God said “NO!” I am not going to allow my child to get this done today. I know she is going to be disappointed. But I God love her too much. That is what I got from it when the Lord said,” everything is for a reason.” Thank you, Lord, for always doing things in your timing and for protecting me.

Exactly! It brought me the peace I needed.

  4. Thanks for this timely reminder. As we sometimes say ‘ Our disappointment is often God’s appointment’. We trust Him with what we don’t or can’t know and guard or joy/peace.

  6. Love your story. This happened to me the other day. I kept calling it “God talking me off theof the cliff edge”. But as I read your experience I see He was not only preventing me from making a mistake but also saving my joy.
